FAQs.

Are heat pumps compatible with underfloor heating?

Yes. They are the perfect partner for underfloor heating due to operating at much lower flow temperatures than radiators.

Is an air source heat pump noisy?

No! They are less noisy than the flue of a gas boiler. Also, the Daikin Altherma 3 HT is quiet mark certified as it operates at whisper quiet levels for maximum acoustic comfort.

How efficient are air source heat pumps?

Air source heat pumps are extremely efficient it’s one of the main reasons homeowners choose to have one installed. They require electricity to operate but for every 1kW of electricity used they will produce 3-4 kwh of usable heat energy, that’s efficiency of 300%-400% compared to just 90% for a new gas boiler.

Can I keep my existing radiators?

Yes you can - using the Daikin Altherma 3 High Temperature which has a compact design and requires minimal installation space and integrates seamlessly with your existing piping and radiators. This way you can enjoy the energy efficiency of a heat pump without having to replace your entire system. They are ideal for renovations and replacing old boilers.

Will my heat pump still work in cold weather?

Yes, heat pumps work effectively all year round. Did you know Daikin Altherma air source heat pumps can operate in temperatures as cold as -25°C.

Do I need planning permission to install an air source heat pump?

In most cases, you do not need planning permission but we always say it’s best to check. If you have a listed property or you are in a conservation area or area of outstanding natural beauty then permission will be required.

What is the life span of an air source heat pump?

Air source heat pumps are low maintenance systems that require servicing and maintenance by a qualified technician only once a year. They also have a long lifespan and can work efficiently for up to 25 years, provided they’re well maintained and serviced annually. That means a Daikin air source heat pump can last twice as long as a boiler which, on average, has a life expectancy between 10 and 15 years.

What does MCS stand for?

MCS stands for Microgeneration Certification Scheme which is often described as the renewables equivalent of Gas Safe. If you want to benefit from the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme you will need your heat pump system to be fully MCS compliant.

What is a DNO?

DNO stands for Distribution Network Operator. DNO is a company which owns and controls the power lines and infrastructure that connects the National Grid to a property or building.

Why do I need to contact my DNO?

The main reason you would need to get in touch with your DNO is if you are planning on making major electrical changes to a property, such as installing a heat pump. But however don’t worry we can help you with this.
